It’s a classic film because Rambo represents everyone who’s been shitted on by someone “higher up” than him. He represents the little guy just like Rocky did. Stallone liked to do those types of films of the little guy overcoming impossible odds because he grew up with a speech impediment and likely felt the sting of being downcast and downtrodden by greater society.

Rambo is the epitome of the little guy- just minding his own business, not really doing anything wrong, yet offensive by his mere presence. And then he basically just takes on the entire town/county of a region of one state and wins. Killing cops (representative of all those who is oppressive in society) left and right. Which really really excites anyone who has ever been kicked around by power hungry/hierarchical-minded people. That’s what makes the film so great.

Also, Rambo is a very low key and humble guy. He’s not a braggart, he’s not at all cocky, he’s not at all initially aggressive or pushy. He’s just a regular Joe trying to go about his life who happens to have a particular set of skills that makes him able to dismantle and bring great pain upon anyone threatening him.
