I tried so hard to like this film, really I did. It features so many of the X-Men characters I’ve loved since I was in kindergarten/preschool, and I’ve enjoyed most of the X-Men movies so far, no matter what the critics/reviews said, so I was honestly surprised by how underwhelmed I am.

The problem with this one is that it keeps…pulling its punches, so to speak. They could have done so much more with almost every single plot point, but it’s never adequately developed. As a result, the story never quite builds up enough to reach a proper climax despite the many times it very well could have, and the stunning visuals and action lack the substance and impact they deserve.
